Is it possible to get a proof / galley proof for print approval?

For new data, you will receive a proof for approval before the data goes to print. This way you can be sure that only released data is printed. Please note, however, that we do not send a galley proof for repeated orders.

Is it possible to request a colour proof and/or a control copy?

Yes, this possibility exists for most products. Simply select the item "Original sample print" or "White sample" under "Miscellaneous" in the respective online price calculation. Please note that an original sample press proof is only possible in digital printing.

Please make sure that no umlauts, special characters and punctuation marks (e.g. ä, ö, ü, §, &, @, +.......) may be contained.

Can I use marks & guides?

For labels, we only need the punch outline drawn in. Additional marks (e.g. cut, fold or register marks) are superfluous and will be removed by us. For booklets, folding boxes, flyers, letterheads, blocks, cut and if required, folding marks are required.

Is there anything I need to pay attention to when creating PDFs?

When exporting your print data, please make sure to select the PDF standard: PDF/X-4:2010, PDF/X-3:2003. Furthermore, restrictions and security settings of the PDF must be deactivated (i.e. the print file must not be password protected).

Can I create a PDF directly as a print file?

Yes, vector-based PDF is particularly well suited as a print template.

What do I have to consider when creating a print file with regard to fonts?

Accepted Answer

All fonts must be embedded completely or as subgroups in the print data document or converted into paths in order to avoid display problems with the character spacing or the typeface. This also applies to standard fonts like Arial, Helvetica, Times New Roman or Verdana.
The recommended minimum font size should be 5 pt. For negative fonts, the recommended minimum font size should be 6 pt, taking line width into account. For fonts with very fine stroke widths, care must be taken to ensure that they have a correspondingly large font size. Especially if these are to be printed in negative. If this is not the case, it can happen that these fine fonts are no longer clearly and legibly displayed in print. Please do not create black texts in CMYK, but only in the black channel.

What do I have to consider when creating a print file regarding lines?

If hairlines are created in the data, they must have a minimum thickness of 0.25 pt (0.09 mm). Otherwise they may not be printed or may appear interrupted, uneven, blurred or torn. In addition, the corresponding line thickness depends on whether it is to be printed positively or negatively.

RGB data cannot be printed. They must be converted to CMYK before printing. If Lab or RGB colour spaces are used, colour deviations may occur.

Can you print HKS and Pantone colours?

In digital printing the colour space is limited by the 4 basic colours, no spot colours can be printed, but in conventional printing it is possible. To reproduce special colours in digital printing, they are simulated in 4C Euroscale. In offset printing we use HKS + Pantone, in flexo printing, however, only Pantone.

What does HKS and Pantone mean?

HKS and Pantone colours are ready-mixed colours and are also called spot colours, solid colours or special colours. Spot colours are used to represent colours that are outside the colour gamut of four- or multicolour printing. Furthermore, spot colours are clearly defined depending on the substrate.

How do I create a special colour?

Special colors must be created as a solid color in the corresponding layout program. Taking into account the material properties, the special colours must have a correct HKS or Pantone colour designation. They should therefore be defined as "Coated" or "Uncoated".

How does printing with the spot colour gold work?

Accepted Answer

Gold ink can only be printed in conventional printing. In digital printing, there is the alternative possibility of getting gold elements with foil embossing on the label. For this, the elements to be embossed must be defined as a special colour.

What is the difference between scale colours (CMYK 4-colour) and Pantone/HKS (spot colours)?

Scale colours are created from the four basic colours (cyan, magenta, yellow, black). Special colours are colours that are outside the colour gamut of four- or multicolour printing.

Should I use colour profiles?

We use the ICC profile ISOcoatedv2 for printing.
For printing, the data must be created in CMYK colour mode. With print data that are created in Lab or RGB colour spaces, colour deviations may occur when converting to CMYK, as not all RGB colours can be represented in the CMYK colour space. On the website of the ECI (European Color Initiative) you can download these colour profiles free of charge.

Why do the colours look different on my print product than on the screen?

It is possible that the colours on your screen look different from those on your printed product, because the screen is in RGB colour space, whereas we work with the process colours cyan, magenta, yellow and black. This can lead to deviations in the conversion. For this purpose we offer you a colour binding proof, which is produced by us and counteracts these effects. Alternatively, a sample proof can be produced for you on original material.

What can I do if 4 colours are not enough for me or I want a colourful print product?

On HP Indigo, HP indigo technology digitally enables us to achieve an extended colour gamut of up to 7 colours, representing up to 97% of the PANTONE® colour space.

How can I have my print product printed on both sides?

Printed products can be printed by us on both sides. To do this, you must create 2 pages to be printed as a document, select a 2-sided printed product in the respective online product calculator and upload your print data there. Sticky notes, however, cannot be printed on both sides.

Transparency occurs when you create a print file, for example, when you reduce the opacity or set soft edges. We can process these transparencies on our site. The condition for this is that you have saved the print file correctly.
