What is special about FEFCO boxes?

Product and shipping packaging are highly versatile, offering a wide range of base constructions—such as insertable bases or automatic bases—and lid options like hinged lids or tuck-in flap closures. Additionally, there are various models, including cross packaging or blanks made of corrugated board.

To manage this extensive variety and ensure a consistent Europe-wide standard, the Fédération Européenne des Fabricants de Carton Ondule (FEFCO) was established in Brussels1952. This non-profit organisation of the corrugated board industry develops uniform standards to classify packaging products. Today, still based in Brussels, it’s known as the European Federation of Corrugated Board Manufacturers - with the abbreviation FEFCO still in use.

FEFCO simplifies product classification with a table of nine categories, each assigned a unique four-digit code:

The first two digits indicate the category (e.g., 02 for folding boxes), while the last two specify details like construction style. For example, a folding carton with outer flaps on butt and inner flaps on a gap is coded 0201, whereas a box with overlapping lid flaps for seamless closure is 0203. Both belong to the “folding box” category but differ in their construction.

Thanks to FEFCO standards, customers across Europe can reliably identify and order specific packaging types (like 0203 for overlapping lid boxes) regardless of the manufacturer’s country, ensuring consistency and transparency in product selection.

Which FEFCO boxes are available at Labelprint24?

Labelprint24 you can choose from product packaging, printed shipping packaging, and unprinted shipping packaging, all designed according to FEFCO standards.

The classic folding carton, FEFCO 0201, is one of the most widely used packaging solutions worldwide. Its popularity is due to its easy handling and affordable price. When combined with adhesive or strapping tape, it offers a reliable closure that consumers everywhere are familiar with. It’s no surprise that this carton is a top seller in e-commerce.

The cardboard box, FEFCO 0203, is a notably durable option, providing a more secure closure with its overlapping base and lid flaps. An additional advantage of this design is that both the base and lid have double the material thickness due to the gapless closure, making it an excellent choice for heavier or sensitive products that require extra protection.

Another bestseller in product packaging is the carton box with tuck-in tab. Used worldwide for diverse products—from food to the cosmetic industry—making this versatile solution very popular. There are different variants available:  

• FEFCO 0210 features mirrored lid and base flaps
• FEFCO 0211 has offset lid and base flaps

This allows you to choose the most suitable design for your product, ensuring optimal handling and convenience.

The folding carton, FEFCO 0215, provides enhanced stability thanks to its insertable base, making it ideal for packaging heavier items such as metal parts or technical products.  

The FEFCO 0713 folding carton combines this stability with added ease of use: featuring an automatic bottom that erects automatically when folded, it simplifies handling and helps save time during filling.

A standout in our range is the carton box with a hinged lid, FEFCO 0427. Its hinged lid offers customers a memorable unboxing experience. You can print your marketing messages on the inside of the lid, creating a surprise element that highlights your brand values in a sustainable way.

Additionally, this box variant is available with either a tear-open or adhesive strip. The reasalable carton box with a hinged lid, FEFCO 0885, not only offers easy handling but is also ideal for return shipments, thanks to its integrated adhesive strip, simplifying the process for your customers.

To reinforce and stabilise your product's inside packaging, you can also opt for corrugated board blanks, FEFCO 0110, at Labelprint24. These blanks not only add extra stability but can also be fully printed on, allowing for customised designs and branding that enhance your packaging’s visual appeal.
