Guide to selecting the right label film
Some factors for selecting the right film and adhesive:
- Storage (weather conditions, temperature range, UV stability, moisture, heat, cold, dirt, dust, contact with chemicals)
- Transport (resistance to seawater, scratch resistance, aging resistance)
- Containers (surface tension, formability)
- Further processing (thermal resistance, printing technology)
- Migration regulations (food labels)
The material of the product packaging and its properties are just as important as the label material itself. Especially with packaging made from low-energy plastics (e.g., PE film / PP film) or rough surfaces of other materials, extra strong adhesives with high initial tack are recommended. In addition, the formability of the immediate product packaging plays a crucial role in selecting the appropriate film material.
General guide to choosing the right film for your labels:
PE film
- for deformable containers and packaging not exposed to high thermal stress
- cost-effective
- toxicologically safe
- also suitable for fatty foods, etc.
PP film
- for rigid containers that are not deformable and must withstand higher temperatures
- more tear-resistant than PE and PVC materials
PVC film
- for outdoor storage and for goods with long transport routes overseas or extended storage and delivery times within the country
- UV-resistant, aging-resistant, resistant to seawater
- Conformable even on uneven surfaces
- does not require an extra barrier layer to prevent plasticizer migration
- not suitable for food contact
