As the name suggests, folding cartons can be folded together. This means that the packaging can be stacked, allowing you to save a lot of storage space. However, you should pay attention to the optimum environment. Rooms or areas with a humidity of at least 50 to a maximum of 55 per cent have proven to be ideal storage locations. Humidity levels below 50 per cent in particular harbour the risk of permanent damage to the corrugated cardboard. - How much time do I need to allow for production and delivery of my order?
The normal process provides for a maximum production time of 15 working days plus 2 days delivery time. However, you can speed up the process by opting for express production. This reduces the production time to a maximum of 10 days. You can achieve an even faster production time by ordering express production. In this case, we will complete production of your order within 5 working days at the latest. In both cases, the maximum delivery time is just 24 hours. - What are the advantages of a coating with protective laminate?
With our protective laminate coating, you can optimise the protection of the surfaces of printed folding cartons. With digital printing, all the data involved is processed directly on the digital printing system. Using the latest laser technology as well as loading and unloading, we apply the print to the cardboard surfaces in a single work step. The set-up time is short, which means fast delivery and outstanding cost efficiency, especially for short runs and express print products. As we utilise the latest technologies, we guarantee a high-quality, glossy print image. You also benefit from great flexibility. With the digital printing process, changes can be made at the last minute. This is not possible with offset printing.
The offset printing process stands for a razor-sharp look
In many cases, offset printing provides an even higher quality print image with a very fine screen and razor-sharp edges. This is primarily due to the fact that the printing ink penetrates deeper into the cardboard surface in offset printing. In digital printing, on the other hand, the ink lies more on the surface. However, due to technological developments in the digital sector, the differences are now difficult for laypeople to recognise. In terms of process technology, offset printing, which is an indirect printing process, is far more complex. The colour is not applied directly to the surface to be printed.
Complex process structure requires longer printing processes
Instead, the ink first passes through a close-meshed roller system and is then transferred to the printing plate. From here, the ink is then transferred to an integrated blanket cylinder and only then to the respective surface. A separate printing plate must be exposed for each printing colour in the CMYK colour profile. The actual printing process can only begin once the plate has been clamped into the printing press. We use offset printing primarily for larger print runs and high graphic requirements.
Product type coding: You should know these FEFCO codes
In addition to individually customised folding cartons, our product range also includes packaging solutions standardised according to the FEFCO code. The abbreviation FEFCO stands for "Fédération Européenne des Fabricants de Carton Ondule". This is the European Federation of Corrugated Board Manufacturers.
The FEFCO code itself is an internationally recognised code for describing the design of corrugated board packaging solutions. The respective design of the folding cartons is always based on a specific basic packaging type. The first two digits of the FEFCO code reveal which basic type is involved. You can choose between a total of nine basic types:
- 01 - commercially available rolls and sheets
- 02 - Folding boxes
- 03 - Lidded boxes or telescope boxes
- 04 - Folded sleeves and trays (open and stackable die-cut packaging)
- 05 - Sliding boxes
- 06 - rigid boxes
- 07 - already glued boxes for erecting
- 08 - Packaging for retail and e-commerce
- 09 - Interior fittings for packaging (e.g. cardboard inserts and separators)
These are the most common FEFCO codes:
- FEFCO 0201: This is the code for a folding carton with abutting top and bottom flaps. You will need strapping and adhesive tape to seal the packaging.
- FEFCO 0202: This code describes folding cartons that have partially overlapping top and bottom flaps. Adhesive tape or strapping tape is also required for sealing in this case.
- FEFCO 0203: This code is used for folding cartons with fully overlapping top and bottom flaps. You can also use strapping and adhesive tape for sealing.
- FEFCO 0421: This is the code for die-cut corrugated cardboard packaging that can be locked directly to the base using connecting flaps on the ends. This packaging solution includes an attached lid with a tuck-in flap at the front.
- FEFCO 0426: Packaging with this code is also die-cut packaging made of corrugated cardboard, which is locked to the base with the help of connecting flaps on the long side and can be set up directly.
- FEFCO 0711: This code refers to a folding carton with abutting lid flaps and an automatic bottom. The carton opens automatically when the corners are pressed together, closing the base at the same time. You can seal the lid with adhesive tape or strapping tape.

For heavier packaged goods weighing up to 30 kg, for example, our folding boxes made of double-wall corrugated cardboard are suitable. If the product weight is lower, you can use cartons made of B-flute (maximum load capacity up to 20 kg) or E-flute (maximum load capacity up to 10 kg) instead.
We also offer you the greatest possible flexibility with regard to the size of the packaging thanks to 100 per cent free formats. The value range includes the following dimensions:
- Length: 50 bis 700 mm
- Height: 50 bis 600 mm
- Width: 50 bis 500 mm
However, pay attention to the combination of the individual dimensions. This is because it is not always possible to combine the minimum and maximum values. The information always refers to the internal dimensions. We therefore recommend that you always design the packaging at least 2 mm larger than the packaged product, regardless of the dimensions selected.
Special features during production: Between laser beam and classic cutting die
In modern packaging production, two different processes can be used to die-cut folding cartons or folding boxes from corrugated cardboard.
In the conventional method, punching is carried out using a rotating punching plate that is attached to the so-called punching cylinder.
The second method, on the other hand, uses a laser beam that cuts the material accurately to size. No cutting dies are required here, as the laser beam can be precisely and automatically adjusted to the respective shape.
This is how we produce your folding cartons
Various machines are used to produce folding cartons from corrugated cardboard. The entire production process is similar to traditional paper production. In the first step, waste paper and pulp are broken down into their individual components in preparation, then shredded and mixed into a pulp. Dirt, foreign bodies or printing ink residues, for example, are filtered out by the systems. The cleaned mixture is then applied to the board machine. Here it passes through a total of four process stages:
- Wet section
- Press section
- Dryer section
- Coating section
The flute of the finished cardboard is produced in the corrugator. In order to achieve the required mouldability of the cardboard, the machine heats and moistens the material before the corrugating rollers form the cardboard into a flute under high pressure. The material is then mechanically bonded to form the single flute corrugated board. To produce a multi-flute version, we add further paper webs in smooth and corrugated form. In the final work step, the corrugated cardboard is cut precisely - to the standardised size or the size you require.

Step 3: Enter additional details and order immediately
Once you have configured the product, you will find an overview of your order in the next step. This is followed by logging in and entering your billing and delivery address. Now all you have to do is select the payment method and confirm the terms and conditions. To start production of your order, we only need the print data, which you can upload after completing the order. You must fulfil these printing requirements:
- PDF/X-4:2010 format
- Embed fonts in the print data
- CMYK colour space
- Use special colours (Pantone or HKS) with original designation
- Line thickness at least 0.5 point (negative / recessed = at least 1 point), for shipping cartons at least = 0.2 mm (negative / recessed = at least 0.4 mm)
- Font size for the positive at least 5 points, for the negative at least 6 points (standard)
- Image resolution at least 300 dpi
- Keep a safe distance from the edge of the print data (between 1.5 and 5 mm depending on the product)
